TRANSPORT

With Belgian road works and traffic jams, we strongly advise public transport.

By plane

Belgium is located in the heart of Europe with Brussels as the capital. Brussels Airport (Zaventem) is the nearest international airport, located about 55 km (34 miles) to the (south)east of Ghent. Direct trains drive frequently from Brussels Airport to Gent-Sint-Pieters in less than an hour (you can look for trains via www.nmbs.be and enter (From) Brussels Airport (To) Gent-Sint-Pieters.

From international station, Gent-Sint-Pieters, tram 1 (direction Center of the city) will take you to stop Gent Korte Meer in about 10 minutes (tram 1 leaves every 5 minutes). The walk from tram stop Korte Meer to the meeting venue is about 600 meters (7 minutes’ walk). We created for you a map in Google Maps to lead you the way.

By train

International: Plan your route via http://www.b-europe.com/Travel (Schiphol 2h, Paris 2h, London 3h)
National: Plan your route via http://www.b-rail.be/main/E/
You can enter two stations as destination: station Gent-Sint-Pieters1 or station Gent-Dampoort2. Gent-Sint-Pieters is the international train station and thus has more and more frequent trains but Gent-Dampoort is a little bit closer to the meeting venue. Check out the meeting venue map in Google Maps to visualise the advised routes.

1 From Gent-Sint-Pieters tram 1 (direction Center of the city) will take you to stop Gent Korte Meer in about 10 minutes (tram 1 leaves every 5 minutes). The walk from Korte Meer to the meeting venue is about 600 meters (7 minutes’ walk).
2 From Gent-Dampoort various buses (3, 17, 18, 38, 39, ...) stop at bus stop Gent Poel after about 10 minutes. The walk from bus stop Poel to the meeting venue is about 200 meters (4 minutes' walk). You can check the bus time table at http://www.delijn.be/en/index.htm (departure Gent-Dampoort (nmbs station) and arrival Gent Poel (bus stop)).

By car

The meeting venue’s address is Oude Houtlei 56 – 9000 Gent – Belgium. The nearest car parking facilities are Sint-Michiels (Sint-Michielsplein 8 – 9000 Gent) and Ramen (Ramen 3 – 9000 Gent) (both at €10/24h). Mind traffic works in the surroundings of the meeting venue (in "Rozemarijnstraat") (due to the construction of a tram way). If you follow the indications below, you will not encounter the traffic site

Coming from Calais - Oostende - Brugge (E40)
  • Take exit n° 13 "Gent West" and follow the indications "Gent Centrum" (direction Sint-Michiels parking). You will arrive in "Hoogstraat"
  • Take the last street on the right: "Oude Houtlei". Monasterium is situated halfway on the right.

Coming from Brussels (E40) or Antwerp (E17)
Mind road works in "Rozemarijnstraat"!

  • Take exit "Gent-Centrum" in "Zwijnaarde" (the boards say "Kortrijk Antwerpen Gent", then "Antwerpen Haven Gent-Centrum" and then "Gent-Centrum) and sort right "E17 Gent"
  • Follow "Alle richtingen" (All  Directions) (= Exit 1 Ledeberg)
  • Turn left at the first traffic lights below the viaduct
  • Sort/keep right direction "Eeklo"
  • Keep following (quite a while) until you see a traffic sign "Centrum" pointing right (the street you turn in is called "Nieuwewandeling" and there is a pub on the corner "Café Belgica")
  • At the 3th traffic lights (quite fast), turn right (at an orange building "Golden Friet") in "Hoogstraat"
  • Keep following until you encounter a traffic sign "Stadsring" pointing right and turn right there (at pub "Café Labath")
  • You arrive in "Oude Houtlei"! (about 150m down the street you will see the blue ESPACOMP flags)
